Breakfast, or lack thereof.

There is a breakfast crisis in SD in my humble opinion. Mission gets the job done but that's not saying much. Urban Solace has saved a day with sunday brunch (the biscuits and gravy are bleeping awesome), but thats just one day!

I think I may start a campaign to pressure the Linkery into doing breakfast, at least start with a weekend brunch, come on! Pastured eggs, amazing sausage, the best pork in town. Tilth does breakfast and they don't even have to, Seattle has ton's of good morning food.

Jay, we need you to step up dude.

I'll wait till the new location is settled into, then bam! 1000 signatures demanding (more like begging) gravy and beer.

This is my plan.

p.s. had brunch at urban solace the day after this post and it was awesome. their bacon is superb and the biscuits and gravy are some of the best I've ever had. if they upgraded their coffee it would be the cherry. a nice french press with some beans from santos or moto.

Happy Meals

Burgers are simple pleasures that can, like a nice bourbon, warm your heart and make you smile.

Here is my recollection of the better burgers of SD.

1. Urban Solace: fine burger, good quality meat, comes with delish sweet pot fries

House Burger, Premium Angus Ground Chuck, Aged White Cheddar, Grilled Onion, Egg Bun
Add Bacon 2. Mushrooms 1. Avocado 1. 8.95

2. Burger Lounge: nice and salty, good bun, quality cow, no fries included.

Grilled Lounge Burger $6.95

All Natural Grass-Fed Beef Grilled to
a Medium Rare Temperature

3. The Linkery: delish when med rare, the bun is a bit too stiff considering how large this monster is.

a complete burger 15.5
house-ground beef (Brandt Farms), house cured red oak-smoked bacon (Duroc pork from Vande Rose Farms), medium aged Gouda cheese (Winchester Farms), Lollo Rossa lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, grilled pineapple, pastured-chicken fried egg (Wingshadows Hacienda), house baked bread get your burger “
Zaki style” by topping it with any link 5.5

4. Kensington Grille: good burger, yum fries, pricey being that its not brandt or grass fed.

kg burger: rustic ciabatta, fries, and all the accompanments 13.50

Let me know what you think!

Little Lungta Turns One

Sebastian is one year old (as of last month). He is joy and love and mini girth and biggie smalls.

What a kid.

The best bleeping cupcake ever! Bleep it was good!

Eclipse Chocolat.

The peanut and salt cup of cake has rocked me.

Go there now and have one. Will has torn Sprinkle's in LA a new one (which would technically make them doughnuts, and at that point might as well start selling Chinese food).

These are for real, with salt and flavors handed down by Zeus and Sophocles and other wise one's. A smart cup of cake Will Gustwiller has made.

Eat one. Now.

Starlite, starbright...

Recently I made my sophomore voyage to Starlite. On my first visit I had a most exquisite meatloaf wrapped in bacon with what may be the most wonderful of all bourbon's, Pappy Van Winkle (I had the 15 year).

I may have felt the presence of an old soul on this visit but it wasn't until the other night where I learned that Starlite not only shares a vibe with my most beloved of bygone girth spots (RIP Region) but also employs some of the old staff including Kate who is now the bar manager and a wizard of mixology.

Needless to say I was quite pleased by the revelation and plan on libating (word?) myself here regularly. And of course, adventuring in girth.

Here's to bacon (which I will be wrapped in upon my departing this world) and Pappy's 15.

HIGH 5

1. The Linkery
2. Starlite
3. Pizzeria Arrivederci
4. Urban Solace
5. Mama's Lebanese Bakery

+ Eclipse Chocolat (the best desert in San Diego by far far and away)
